How to apply for a Sequoia National Park Wedding Permit: A Step-by-Step Guide
Hey there! If you’re reading this you’re probably getting married in Sequoia National Park and need help with applying for a Sequoia National Park Wedding Permit. I’m a local Sequoia National Park Wedding + Elopement Photographer, who has walked lots of clients turned friends through the permit process. It is very important to note that you (person getting married) has to apply for the permit. Your photographer or other vendors cannot do this for you. SOOOO to help you out, here is a step by step guide on how to apply!
Getting the right permit isn’t just about checking a box; it’s about protecting this incredible landscape and making sure your wedding day goes off without a hitch. Let’s make it official the right way- no stress!
Step 1: Review the Permit Rules
Before locking in your date, read through all the permit conditions. Keep in mind that wedding permits won’t be issued on major holiday weekends like Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day. Also, your application must be submitted at least 60 days in advance—so plan ahead. Not only does a permit protect the park, but it protects you as well!!
As a professional photographer and a Leave No Trace follower, I will only photograph weddings + elopements that are approved by the park. A Sequoia National Park Wedding Permit is 100% needed!!
Step 2: Choose Your Date, Time & Location (Plus a Backup!)
Pick your perfect ceremony spot, along with the date and time you have in mind. Always have a backup option, just in case your first choice isn’t available. See a list of locations here! Under “1. Choose the Perfect Locations”
Step 3: Fill Out the Sequoia National Park Wedding Permit
Download and complete the official Wedding Permit Application.
You must fill out the application entirely.
Step 4: Pay the Non-Refundable Application Fee
Head to Pay.gov
The permit fee is $150, non-refundable.
In the search bar, type “SEKI”
Scroll down and select “Sequoia and Kings Canyon NP Wedding Permit Fees”
Click Continue and fill out the form
Submit your payment and screenshot your confirmation (you’ll need to include this with your application)
Step 5: Submit Your Application
Email your completed application and proof of payment to the email address listed on the form.
Step 6: Wait for Approval (About 30 Days)
Once submitted, your application will be reviewed. If approved, you’ll receive a draft permit to review and sign.
Step 7: Finalize Your Permit
Sign your permit and email it back. The Superintendent will finalize it, and you’ll receive your official wedding permit. This needs to happen at least 30 days before your wedding so don’t wait!
Step 8: Print & Bring Your Permit on Your Wedding Day
You must have a physical copy of your Sequoia National Park Wedding Permit with you during your ceremony. Cell service is unreliable in most locations, so don’t count on being able to pull it up on your phone

The best month to get married in Sequoia really depends on the experience you want!
May & June- SUPER greenery, wildflowers, and perfect temps before summer crowds roll in. Can still be a bit crowded but I. know how to work around that!
September & October -Crisp air, golden light, and fewer people! Absolute magic for an intimate elopement or wedding.
Winter (December–March) - f you’re dreaming of a snow-covered wonderland, this is your moment. Just be ready for road closures and chilly temps!!
Personally, September and October are my top picks- fewer crowds, dreamy lighting, and that perfect balance between warm days and cool nights. But no matter when you choose, Sequoia always delivers an epic backdrop!

Nope! The park has strict “leave no trace” rules, so no decorations, chairs, arches, or amplified music are allowed. You can bring a bouquet, but everything else needs to be natural.
Even if you’ve seen it online, don’t be that person. Rules are in place to keep these places beautiful.
-
Guest limits depend on the location, but most spots allow 10-30 people max. If you’re planning a bigger wedding, you’ll want to look at venues just outside the park instead! But you can still come to the park for vows or a first look on your big day. Reach out and we can plan a day that fits your needs!
-
Sequoia’s weather can be unpredictable, especially in fall and winter. Always have a backup plan in case of sudden snow, rain, or road closures.
-
Nope! Cell service is very limited, so print your permit, share all logistics with guests ahead of time, and plan accordingly.
-
Unfortunately, pets aren’t allowed on trails or most ceremony locations. Some areas near campgrounds allow leashed pets, but they’re pretty limited.
-
This is your adventure..make it count! Some couples go for a sunset hike, have a picnic in the trees, or book a cozy cabin nearby to celebrate.
Whatever you dream of, lets make it happen!
